I was without a car for a tiny bit of the weekend which forced me to clean & work, work, work (because you won’t see me walking anywhere in Orlando).   Friday night without a car I found myself sobbing on the phone to my Mom proclaiming “… and I don’t even have a car and all I want is a bottle of wine!” She quickly reminded my pathetic excuse of a proclamation  that it would literally be done the next day.  Le sigh  – I just worked on website landing pages & made these pretty new prints for a wholesale order I received a few weeks ago!    They are the newest ones I’ve created  and I’m super duper happy with them!frames_2 frames_4 frames_6

the weekend

In decorative arts, i made this on November 5, 2012 at 4:13 pm

I drove back to Vero Beach for the weekend to moonlight as a photographer for the Decorative Arts Apparel & My Family.  The Decorative Arts shoot  took place in the old diesel plant in Vero Beach, Florida (photos below).  We had this idea for chic design in an industrial setting and we nailed it!  Taking photos proved to be a lot of fun.  I’m not a photographer by any means – in fact, I was borrowing cameras left and right all weekend!   I like to think I can imitate what I see and what I like pretty well.   These shoots made me realize I need a serious camera   (sorry iphone!)

My favorite store for has expanded!  Apparel has entered Decorative Arts.  It only makes sense because there’s so much interior style in that space already – why not add some fly threads?  Here’s an outfit I paired together for their facebook page.

Lime in the coconut

In decorative arts, work on July 16, 2012 at 10:59 am

Yesterday was probably the most fun I’ve had in quite a while!  Linda Roberts over at Lime in the Coconut brought us all together for a very fun photoshoot at her magical abode.  Once you take a look at her blog and eyeball the pictures below – you’ll see why magazines offer her space in their publication and why companies offer her their products!  Literally wine was waiting for us at each end of the house so if you forgot your glass you just grabbed a new one – things like that make me happy I had to proclaim I do some of my best work half drunk.  Which is questionable.  The spanish guitar seemed as if it followed us!  Just a very amazing atmosphere.  I’ll shut up now, k?

slowly but surely

In decorative arts, family, Waldo's Garden, work on June 5, 2012 at 7:42 pm

After Waldo’s Garden was featured on 100 layer cake we got tons of e-mails and calls inquiring about this new/old untouched venue.  Then Decorative Arts was honored with the Retail Star of 2012 via Home Accents… it was apparent that, although different businesses, they both had an “in” to a bigger audience.  A fan base that goes past the tri-county area.  So it has been my mission to work my little digits off getting e-mails to magazine prospects (online & published!), e-mailing everybody involved, tweeting to online editors, sitting in Barnes & Noble collecting new magazines, researching tips to woo editors, bugging my friends that have interned at magazines, etc.

The answer is always “No” until you try!

Oh!  And if you (yes, you!) have any tips or advice regarding my venture it would be much appreciated

This is a lot to read and I am well aware I have your attention for maybe a minute & a 1/2 but I am including this article to showcase how my photography/photoshop work has helped catch the eye of Home Accents Today Magazine for Decorative Arts!

Decorative Arts is honored for excellence by Home Accents Today magazine

May 16, 2012, Greensboro, N.C. – Vero Beach retailer Decorative Arts has been named one of Home Accents Today’s 50 Retail Stars for 2012 by editors of the premier trade magazine for the home accents industry. Founded in 2001, the store is located at 1923 Old Dixie Highway and is owned by Debrah Daly.

The businesses selected for the magazine’s Retail Stars list have demonstrated that they operate successfully in their marketing areas, exhibit strength in merchandising, display and/or advertising, and have a positive presence in their local communities.

“There has never been a tougher time to be an independent retailer, with ongoing competition from chain stores, the increasingly significant role of online retail and the difficult economic climate,” said Jenny Heinzen York, editor in chief, Home Accents Today. “The 2012 Retail Stars have taken on these challenges with a combination of clever entrepreneurship, innovation, merchandising, customer service and marketing. We are delighted to recognize these talented merchants, and, as always, encourage everyone to support their own local businesses.”

Home Accents Today editors focused on independent and family-run retailers, specifically those considered specialty, home accent or home furnishings stores. Members of the industry were invited to suggest stores and retailers were encouraged to submit information describing their businesses. The list, now in its eighth year, was compiled and narrowed down by research analysts and editors of the publication. A business may be named to the list only one time, resulting in 50 first-time honorees each year.

“Decorative Arts is a great name for this store,” said Retail Editor Susan Dickenson. “Their displays and use of color are really eye-catching, and it looks like someone on staff is a great photographer – a real asset for any retailer involved in social media. The success they’re having with their virtual styling program is also impressive.”

The 50 Retail Stars list, sponsored by AmericasMart Atlanta, is published in the May 2012 issue of Home Accents Today. The 25-year-old publication, based in Greensboro, N.C., is owned by Sandow Media.

My favorite store in Vero Beach is having a huge 25-50% off sale for the next two days and I’ve been eyeing this ikat tray for months now.  Well it sold and i was all bummed but then it returned and today I took advantage of it, quickly!  the heart wants…
